Under the Boardwalk
In the late 1940s, "beach music" emerged in the Carolinas. Drawing influence from pop, rock, and R&B, the soul-soaked regional phenomenon inspired countless Motown hits, and gave rise to a new style of swing dance known as the shag. Whether you know it or not, you can still boogie down to the sounds of the South, which includes funky beats from artists like Al Green, the Temptations, and the Isley Brothers.
